Why do people decide to work in social care? All kinds of reasons actually. It could be they want flexibility or variety or they love a 'face to face' kind of job rather than sat in an office. Sometimes it's a permanent career change and other times it's temporary. We have been chatting to our staff, finding out their own 'stories' about why they chose to work at PerCurra home care.
I started working for PerCurra in July 2022 following my three day induction. The training was informative and prepared me for the role. I started off with shadowing visits with other carers, getting to know the clients. Nothing was rushed and the staff were lovely and explained the clients’ routines. The clients were welcoming and lovely, all with different individual care needs - which is what was interesting.

Erica has been a professional home carer with our Grantham branch since it first opened. Originally training as a nurse, Erica always knew she wanted to work in a caring profession. At one point she did move briefly to an office job but it just wasn't for her.

In her mid 50's Carole wanted a change of career. Her sister suggested working in Social Care because she naturally has a caring and nurturing personality. She decided that PerCurra was a perfect fit for her and started in her role in February 2019 - just before lockdown. She could not have started at a more demanding time!

When the pandemic lock-downs forced Emma Johnson to put her nail technician business on hold she had to find another source of income. Her experience of caring for her own mother had given her an insight into care work so she decided to give it a try. She loved it so has carried on working as a PerCurra home care assistant even though she has been able to restart her business.

Working as a Care Assistant can be demanding but there is an extremely high level of job satisfaction. Experience is not always necessary but a caring, compassionate nature is definitely required. Our induction course and supervision sessions prepare you for your job role and, if specialist training is needed for you to support a client's particular needs, then we make sure you receive it.
